Logbook for the yacht Pamela V

This is a work of art created by the Conti Borbone bookbindery, a historic Milanese workshop that has been restoring and binding books, mounting leather or parchment on tables and desks, and making marbled papers since 1873.
The logbook is a valuable document that chronicles the adventures and discoveries of those who sail the seas. In this case, the book contains the memoirs of a voyage around the world made by the yacht Pamela V, a 44.9-meter luxury yacht built in 2011 by the Dutch shipyard Hakvoort. The yacht, registered in Malta, has a capacity for 8 guests and 10 crew members, and can reach a maximum speed of 14 knots.
To pay tribute to this extraordinary voyage, the logbook was made with the highest quality materials and techniques. The cover was made with a vegetable shoulder, decorated in gold with the design of the yacht and the name Pamela V. The spine is also leather, with gold ribbing and title. The pages are in fine paper and silk bookmark. The whole is enclosed in a mock book box made like the book itself.
The gilding was done using the gouache technique, which involves the application of a very thin sheet of gold, called "gold leaf." This technique, used since the 1200s by great Italian and European artists, gives gold a unique luster and strength.
The video, which lasts about 2 minutes, shows all the stages in the production of the board book, from cutting the leather to gilding, from stitching the pages to binding, from decorating the cover to making the box. This is a rare opportunity to admire the work of master craftsmen who keep the ancient traditions of bookbinding alive.
